Beck Slams Conservative Reaction To Tapper’s ‘Allahu Akbar’ Remark

On Friday, Glenn Beck castigated conservative media outlets for their coverage of what CNN’s Jake Tapper said in the aftermath of the NYC terror attack.

For the uninitiated, here’s the lead-up. Following the attack on Tuesday, Tapper said:

The Arabic chant: Allahu Akbar, God is great — sometimes said under the most beautiful of circumstances, and too often we hear of it being said in moments like this.

In response, The Daily Caller published an article titled: “CNN’s Jake Tapper Calls Allahu Akbar ‘Beatiful’ After Terrorist Attack.”

Fox News issued and subsequently deleted the following tweet:

After Tapper defended himself, The Daily Caller tweeted:

The Daily Caller then changed the title of the piece and issued a correction: “The Editor in Chief has updated this copy to make the terminology more accurate, though the spirit of the story remains identical.”

However, in a published statement, Editor-in-Chief Geoffrey Ingersoll wrote in part:

Any rational viewer or reader is likely to take Tapper’s words here as an attempt to launder “Allahu akbar,” just an hour after the attack, just seconds after a CNN correspondent said it was used in conjunction with the killing of his American countrymen, for what we could assume at the time.

Worse yet, this kind of bending of the knee has become almost necessary prior to highlighting a crime perpetrated by a member of one of the media’s protected classes, in this case, Muslims.

Literally, linguistically, and journalistically, Tapper was telling Americans he was, for the moment, first concerned about rehabbing “Allahu akbar’s” image before turning to a man infinitely more capable of analyzing the situation and informing America about the latest terror attack — the former director of national intelligence.

On Friday, Glenn Beck responded to the brouhaha:

It was a stupid and completely wrong thing, but people spread it, agreed with it. And it’s because of an unreasonable hatred of the media. … Hatred is the problem. We can’t be blinded by our hate for the media. … We must take responsibility for our behavior.
