ESPN Sends Holiday Greetings to 150 Employees with Big Layoff

ESPN continues to pay dearly for straying from being a network that was strictly about covering sports into one that has become saturated with anti-white resentment and liberal politics.

The ongoing loss of subscribers has led to the entertainment corporation having to cut back on staff to compensate for lost revenue and the latest round of cuts have now arrived – just in time for Christmas.

HO! HO! HO!

Bloomberg is reporting “ESPN Cuts About 2% of Its Workforce”:

ESPN is firing about 150 people, according to a person familiar with the matter, eliminating about 2 percent of its workforce as subscriptions decline and costs rise for the rights to air live sporting events.

Employees will be informed Wednesday of the layoffs, the second round of cuts this year at Walt Disney Co.’s cable sports network. ESPN expects to maintain its staff at around 8,000, but the company needs to eliminate some positions so it can devote resources to a new morning show, an online streaming service and shows for social networks, said the person, who asked not to be identified discussing personnel matters.

Here’s the memo from ESPN President John Skipper:

Today we are informing approximately 150 people at ESPN that their jobs are being eliminated.

We appreciate their contributions, and will assist them as much as possible in this difficult moment with severance, a 2017 bonus, the continuation of health benefits and outplacement services. They will also appreciate your support.

The majority of the jobs eliminated are in studio production, digital content, and technology and they generally reflect decisions to do less in certain instances and re-direct resources.

We will continue to invest in ways which will best position us to serve the modern sports fan and support the success of our business.

John

Unfortunately, the layoffs will spare those who regularly spew their bigotry on the air like Jemele Hill and Stephen A. Smith, the latter who unbelievably suggested that the term Black Friday was racist.

The cuts were in production and other off-air areas, kind of a cruel knife in the back considering it was the politicized commentary from the hosts that has greatly contributed to the network’s woes.

ESPN did, however, make moves to clarify their social media policy and to address the actions of the untouchables like Hill who took to Twitter to call President Trump a “white supremacist” and later was suspended after trying to organize a boycott against the Dallas Cowboys due to Jerry Jones’ hardline on the kneelers.

Via the New York Daily News “ESPN requiring editorial talent to attend presentation on social media policy, political commentary”:

The ESPN talent that survives this week’s layoffs can mark one date off next month’s calendar.

According to Sports Illustrated, ESPN brass is requiring its editorial talent, ranging from on-air personalities to reporters, to attend a two-hour presentation at the network’s headquarters in Bristol, Conn., on Dec. 13.

The agenda will cover the recent changes to the company’s social media policy, along with guidelines of how staffers should handle political and social issues, as well as upcoming initiatives, according to SI.

In-person attendance is considered a top priority, and employees unable to be in Bristol must submit a legitimate excuse to their supervisor, according to the report.

“I imagine it will be like Dorothy walking outside after the twister to see what’s still standing,” one ESPN employee told SI.

By not acting to cut out some of the actual cancer and addressing the root cause of the network’s problems by ridding itself from the militants, ESPN has only kicked the can down the road and all but guaranteed that the layoffs aren’t over – not by a long shot.

Skipper just received a contract extension, it seems like this is one industry where one is rewarded for running a company into the ground.
