Harvey Finally Speaks

Weinstein says “We all make mistakes.”

Harvey Weinstein has had a tough week.

The Hollywood mogul was the subject of a damning New York Times piece exactly a week ago Thursday, lost his company on Sunday, and his wife left him on Wednesday. The same day more Hollywood starlets accused him of rape and sexual assault.

Throughout his self-made ordeal, Weinstein hasn’t said anything publicly. But the media staked out his lawyers offices and on Wednesday finally caught up with him, as he left to board a private jet to fly to a sex rehab clinic in Arizona.

The interaction didn’t start well: Weinstein gave the pack of photographers both middle fingers. But then he talked.

“Guys, I’m not doing OK but I’m trying. I gotta get help. I’m hanging in, I’m trying my best,” said Weinstein, who looked disheveled in a black T-shirt and loose jeans, his chubby face unshaven.

“You know, we all make mistakes…. Second chance, I hope.” And he told the throng of paparazzi, “And you know I’ve always been loyal to you guys, not like those f*cking pr*cks who treat you like sh*t. I’ve been the good guy.”

And then he was off.

Weinstein was reportedly flying off to the Meadows, which costs $40,000 a month and where former patients include Tiger Woods.

Weinstein is now reportedly under FBI investigation, as the Department of Justice supposedly instructed the agency to “investigate the mounting allegations leveled at the movie mogul,” the Daily Mail reported.

The Mail reports that although the move might be seen as political, given Weinstein’s close ties to the Clintons and Obamas, there are valid reasons for the investigation. The move by the DOJ came amid rumors that Weinstein plans to head to Europe for sex rehab – leading to fears of a Roman Polanski-style situation, where he might dodge potential prosecution in the U.S.

The FBI can both look at whether he has committed any federal crimes in the U.S. and prepare extradition proceedings if he remains in Europe.

Among the allegations against Weinstein, which the FBI is expected to examine, is that he forced Lucia Evans, a student who wanted to be an actress, to perform oral sex on him in New York in 2004. Two other women have accused him of rape and several others have accused him of sexual harassment and assault.
