On this episode of Blunt Force Truth, Mark Young welcomes returning guest Dr. Kris Held to talk about the 900+ addendum to Obamacare that Congress passed last year. Both sides of the aisle voted for it, but few Americans ever heard of it. That’s not surprising, since under the new bill, the government can spy on medical information for any citizen that they deem necessary.
Dr. Held breaks the problematic details of the bill. She reveals how government is encouraging worse treatment for patients through rewards and penalties for doctors. From first hand experience, she also highlights how Congress is making it harder for private practices to survive.
Kris Held, M.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon who is in private practice in San Antonio and maintains an academic affiliation as a Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Dr. Held has read, reported on, and participated in tweeting about the entire Affordable Care Act. She is co-founder of AmericanDoctors4Truth, co-creator of rebel.md, and a member of the Physicians’ Healthcare Workgroup working with physicians from across the country, including physician Congressmen, to draft a template for true patient-centered, market-driven healthcare reform.
In addition to her recognition in Best Doctors in America, Dr. Held has been named to America’s Top Ophthalmologists, Texas Super Doctors, and San Antonio’s Top Doctors. She also received The Shining Scalpel Award from The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons “In recognition of her outstanding service to the American people and the profession of medicine by ‘cutting’ through the political rhetoric regarding ‘healthcare reform.’”
