Kim Threatens US With ‘Merciless Strike’ Over War Games

August 21, 2017

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un threatened the United States with a “merciless strike” over a joint military drill conducted by the US and South Korea; calling the bi-annual war games “reckless behavior” pushing all parties towards an “uncontrollable” nuclear war.

Kim made the threat through state-run news media, saying the communist nation was ready to launch a nuclear “strike” against Guam, Hawaii, or even the American mainland in response to the drills.

“The Trump group’s declaration of the reckless nuclear war exercises against the DPRK … is a reckless behavior driving the situation into the uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war,” said the statement.

“The Korean People’s Army is keeping a high alert, fully ready to contain the enemies. It will take resolute steps the moment even a slight sign of the preventive war is spotted,” it added.

The stark warning comes just a day before the United States and South Korea launch their massive war simulation. The drill involves tens of thousands of soldiers and is seen as an integral part of the military alliance’s preparedness should all-out war erupt on the Korean peninsula.

The exercise will certainly raise tensions in the region that are already approaching a breaking point.

Last week, North Korea threatened to launch four, long-range ballistic missiles towards the American territory of Guam. After a war of words between President Trump and dictator Kim Jong Un, the North Korean government announced it had backed-off its plans to attack the island, but warned it could change its mind at any time.
