Mattis Has Better Things To Discuss Than NFL Controversy: One Response Says It All

On Sunday, Secretary of Defense James Mattis hilariously proved once again that he has no time for matters that are outside his purview or beyond the limitations of his office, that he has a job to do, and that’s about it.

En route to India, Mattis engaged in a brief Q&A with reporters. It was briefer than the reporters may have expected; after discussing various foreign affairs, one reporter had the temerity to ask Mattis, “Do you have anything to say about the NFL, being someone who has served in the military?

Mattis replied succinctly, “I’m the secretary of defense. We defend the country.”

And with that answer, the Q&A was over.

Mattis had made it clear that the U.S. would be friendly to nations that did not engage in interference with other countries, noting India’s help in the fight against terrorism, saying, “Any nation that is living by the traditional rules of non-interference in other states in today’s age of anti-terrorism, they will not find this relationship in any way adversarial.”

Mattis is famous for his pithy aphorisms, including, “Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet,” “I’m going to plead with you, do not cross us. Because if you do, the survivors will write about what we do here for 10,000 years,” and others such as “Powerpoint makes us stupid,” and “Marines don’t know how to spell defeat.”

Now there’s another one.
