Nikki Haley On North Korea: International Community Is Tired Of Their Reckless Behavior

Since President Trump took office in January, North Korea has repeatedly tested the United States by firing off a number of missiles and threatening nuclear war.

Over the weekend, the United Nations issued a hefty response by delivering new sanctions on the rogue regime after a 15-0 vote was delivered by the UN Security Council. The Chinese and Russians came onboard, a major victory for the United States and the world.

The United Nations Security Council unanimously imposed new sanctions on North Korea on Saturday that could slash by a third the Asian state’s $3 billion annual export revenue over its two intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July.

The U.S.-drafted resolution bans North Korean exports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood. It also prohibits countries from increasing the current numbers of North Korean laborers working abroad, bans new joint ventures with North Korea and any new investment in current joint ventures.

During an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Dana Perino Monday night, UN Ambassador Nikki Haley explained why the vote was necessary and detailed the feelings of the international community toward North Korean President Kim Jong Un’s antics.

“It was a gut-punch to North Korea, to let them know the international community is tired of it and we’re going to start fighting back,” Haley said. “At the end of the day how many ICBM tests do we need to see before we do something? Every dollar of revenue that the North Korean government gets, they’re not feeding their people with it. They’re using it toward a nuclear weapons system. Going after these sanctions is going after their ability to build these missiles. It’s something that needed to happen.”

According to a recent NBC News poll, 41 percent of Americans fear war with North Korea. Haley addressed that concern but reassured the situation is being handled.

“All of us should be concerned about what’ happening right now,” Haley continued. “But the signs that we’re seeing from North Korea is that they’re concerned back. Now they see the international community standing with one voice. China didn’t pull off. Russia didn’t pull off and all of the security council and the international community said, ‘That’s enough, you’ve got to stop it. It’s reckless, it’s irresponsible and the international community really laid down the ground work to say, ‘We’re not going to watch you do this anymore.’ Now North Korea has to respond.”

Haley added that the United States plans to keep China engaged and will not run scared in the face of North Korean threats.
