The new wave of sexual assault and harassment allegations has inspired Peyton Manning’s accuser to again speak out.
Jamie Naughright, who was an athletic trainer at the University of Tennessee while Manning was the star quarterback, spoke to CBS’ “Inside Edition” about the 1996 incident in which she alleges Manning exposed himself to her, then placed his genitals on her face.
Manning has admitted to “mooning” a teammate as a 19-year-old with Naughright present, but for decades has denied making contact with her, denials that his lawyer continued issuing Monday.
Asked about Manning’s contention that he never touched her, Naughright said, “That’s a lie.
“I felt something on my face and Peyton had pulled his shorts down and sat his anus and his testicles on my face,” she said in her first TV interview, airing Monday. “So I pushed him up and out. He turned around, pulled his shorts back up.”
She added: “I was repulsed. I was scared. I was intimidated. … It was definitely a predator — intimidating, anger, violent eyes that he had.”
Naughright settled with the university for a variety of alleged incidents for $300,000 and resigned from the school in 1998. In the affidavit for the complaint, she said Manning exposed his butt to her.
She was quiet until 2002, when she filed a defamation case against Manning, alleging he and his father disparaged her in a book. The CBS report contains footage from Manning’s 2003 deposition for the case, which was settled. When Naughright was deposed, she said Manning had made physical contact with her.
“I briefly pulled down my pants to so-called ‘moon’ him,” Manning said in the deposition. “One second, one-and-a-half seconds. Pulled my pants back up and continued with Jamie’s examination of the bottom of my foot.”
The case was mostly forgotten until it resurfaced in early 2016, as Manning was winning his second Super Bowl, with the Broncos, before he retired.
“Peyton Manning has been absolutely clear: Jamie Naughright’s accusations are false,” Manning’s attorney told CBS in a statement. “When her claims were first investigated 21 years ago, she told a very different story. Her current account was invented several years later in connection with her first of several groundless litigations against Peyton. Most recently, she left Peyton’s mother a vulgar and extremely disturbing voicemail. Ms. Naughright should stop this abusive behavior.”
According to the CBS report, Naughright was inspired to come forward by the women who have spoken out against Harvey Weinstein.
