The junior senator from New York told CNN presenter Christiane Amanpour Monday that she wants President Donald J. Trump to resign in the wake of sexual harassment allegations made against him.
“President Trump should resign,” said Democratic Sen. Kirsten E. Gillibrand, who called for Sen. Alan S. “Al” Franken (D.-Minn.) to resign his seat Wednesday and the next day the funnyman cum senator announced from the Senate floor he would soon return to private life.
Gillibrand said she was not willing to wait for Trump to take responsibility for his own actions.
“Whether he will ever hold himself accountable is something–you really can’t hold your breath for–so, Congress should hold hearings, they should do their investigations,” she said. “They should have appropriate investigations of his behavior and hold him accountable.”
In the last weeks, Gillibrand also said that President William J. Clinton should have resigned after his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky was made public.
