Uh-oh: Paul Ryan is as unpopular as Nancy Pelosi

Republican leadership in Congress is in trouble. Last week a poll showed that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is the most hated national politician in America, with just a 19 percent approval rating nationwide.

Now, a new NBC news/SurveyMonkey poll finds that House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., is just as unpopular as Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. Ryan is viewed unfavorably by 63 percent of respondents, compared to the 64 percent who hold the same view of Nancy Pelosi.

President Trump, meanwhile, holds a higher favorability rating, at just 36 percent, than either House leader. Yet 59 percent of Americans said they disapprove of the job President Trump is doing.

This is bad news. There is not a single Republican leader in the legislative branch or the executive branch who has the approval of a majority of Americans. But that’s to be expected when the Republicans in government cannot deliver on basic promises like repealing Obamacare, reining in out-of-control government spending, and securing the border.

The president and members of Congress clearly need to get their act together. The only saving grace for the Republican Party is that Democrats are still less popular than Republicans. But how long can that last?

The former Democratic candidate for president and socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Is the country’s most popular active politician, with an approval rating of 57 percent of registered voters. His socialist ideas are dead wrong and destructive, but without conservative policies pursued by Republicans in government, they remain the only alternative to the failed status quo.

This attracts voters. That’s why Senator Kamala Harris, D-Calif. — who is widely speculated to be a 2020 presidential candidate for the Democrats — just announced her intention to co-sponsor Sanders’ single-payer health care legislation. She’s latching herself onto America’s most popular politician for a shot at the presidency and now forcing Republicans to argue against single-payer health care by defending the status quo — which is the failure of Obamacare.

The Republican Party’s contemptible incompetence and unwillingness to pursue conservative policy has landed party leadership with devastatingly bad approval ratings. Continued failure will bring electoral defeat, and the ascendant socialists in the Democratic party will bring Big Government tyranny.
