Kim Eyes October 10th for ‘Massive’ Nuclear Test

Government officials in South Korea and Japan believe North Korean despot Kim Jong Un will conduct his seventh nuclear test on October 10th; the anniversary of the founding of the regime’s ruling Worker’s Party, reports USA Today.

Japan’s Defense Minister Onodera commented on Kim’s possible test on Friday, saying North Korea commonly uses national holidays as an occasion to launch missiles or conduct nuclear explosions; pointing out the date also coincides with a key Japanese election.

“I understand it is an important anniversary for North Korea. We would like to maintain a sense of urgency,” Onodera told journalists this week.

South Korean National Security Advisor Chung Eui-yong echoed the Japanese Minister’s comments, saying his government believes North Korea will conduct another nuclear test on October 10th or 18th.

Earlier this month, Kim Jong Un raised eyebrows around the world when he successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb and launched two, medium-range ballistic missiles over Japanese territory. The move was harshly condemned by the United Nations, which imposed harsh sanctions against the communist nation in retaliation.

It remains unclear how the United States or its allies in the region would respond to another launch or nuclear test. President Trump has routinely warned Kim that any threat posed to the US or allies would result in the “total destruction” of North Korea.
