Late-night comedian and self-proclaimed political pundit Jimmy Kimmel continues to speak out on healthcare and gun violence, saying he “doesn’t understand” viewers that don’t agree with him on the issues and claiming he’s received “monstrous” threats from GOP supporters.
Kimmel was speaking with NBC’s Matt Lauer when he was asked about his recent comments regarding healthcare and gun control in the wake of the deadly Las Vegas rampage.
“Some people applauded you for wading into that debate. Some people didn’t. Give me a sense of some of the things you read online that impacted you negatively?” asked Lauer.
“I don’t understand being angry when it comes to healthcare. I really don’t understand that because I think it’s obvious what my intent is, and I don’t understand a lot of the backlash,” said Kimmel.
“What I especially don’t understand is the monstrous things people will write about my child and my wife,” he added.
“It’s hard to deal with. It’s especially hard for my wife. You have to put it out of your head, and you have to understand that most people would not do that if they were having a one-on-one conversation with you,” said the late-night comedian.
