Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave an inaugural address in her Bronx congressional district Sunday, befit with a swearing-in-ceremony. Speaking during the event, she seemed to endorse a policy that could potentially shift the Overton window of the Democratic Party on immigration considerably to the left.
AOC spoke of a “right to migrate” that she would fight to implement on a policy level in Washington, referencing the concept in passing with several other progressive policy proposals.
“When it comes to our right to health care, our right to migrate, our right to live, our right to be paid a dignified wage, we will not take no for an answer.
Ocasio-Cortez has been accused by her political critics of supporting unprecedented policies that are incredibly unrealistic, such as the Green New Deal. The environmentalist set of policies would mandate that every building in the United States be rebuilt to meet green standards, in addition to restricting the use of nuclear energy- even though it’s by far the most environmentally-friendly energy source commonly used in the United States.
