The Banned Books list, despite its name focuses on lefty books that are widely available and forced on students in scholastic settings. When any school rejects them, they immediately become ‘banned books’.
So this year’s list is packed with hyper-politically correct YA lit. There’s also the usuals, like Kite Runner and To Kill a Mockingbird, the bad book that will never go away, just get remixed into more versions, and Thirteen Reasons Why, a book largely rejected by schools out of fear that it will promote teenage suicide.
But there’s also The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie at No. 2.
