Despite constant attempts to stifle the success of Ben Shapiro’s speaking engagement at University of California, Los Angeles, the campus lecture, titled “Ben Shapiro: The Rise of Campus Fascism,” hosted by the Bruin Republicans and YAF scheduled for November 13, sold out in 10 minutes.
The Bruin Republicans and YAF utilized the ticket distribution service Eventbrite in accordance with UCLA’s 70/30 policy, which requires the Bruin Republicans to find a third party to distribute tickets.
Once they created the link, the Bruin Republicans promptly sent out an email to those subscribed to their email list-serve and posted the event link on their Facebook page. Currently, the Bruin Republicans have a capacity of 600 attendees, but will have a standby line of 300 so that people can file in if there are empty seats.
When asked about this revelation, Bruin Republican President Jordan Sadlier said, “I am extremely pleased to see the invigorated interest in a conservative speaker on our traditionally liberal-dominated campus here at UCLA. This is a blatant indication that our organization, amog other College Republican chapters, are achieving our goal of making an impact among our peers.”
Spencer Brown, spokesman for YAF said, “Conservative ideas are in high demand at schools where leftist helicopter administrators attempt to stifle freedom’s principles. It’s no surprise that this lecture by Ben Shapiro sponsored by Young America’s Foundation sold out almost immediately—YAF’s nationwide campus lecture program is second to none, ensuring students across the country, including at UCLA, are exposed to the principles of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.”
