Bernie Sanders once said,“ You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers.”
And you don’t need a choice of lefty and conservative media outlets.
All you need is one. The People’s Broadcasting Corporation.
So Bernie, Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker wrote a letter to the FCC. Joining them in their attack on the First Amendment were such notable Dem senators as Vietnam War hero Richard Blumenthal, New York politician Ron Wyden and internet inventor Ed Markey. Also you couldn’t do this thing without Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell, Tom Udall, Jeff Merkley and Tina Smith.
The Stalinist senators would like the FCC to take away Sinclair’s broadcasting licenses for “news distortion”. Also giving our promos violates freedom of the press. (But silencing the conservative opposition doesn’t.)
As “strong defenders of the First Amendment”, Bernie, Liz and Cory want the FCC to stop Sinclair from being conservative and critiquing the “one-sided” stories in the media.
(Bernie probably meant the First Amendment to the Cuban constitution.)
All this is well and good, but the Gang of 11 don’t go far enough.
I have it on good authority that CBS, ABC and NBC News assign stories to their reporters violating thereby their freedom of the press. Also they’re news distortion operations. It’s time to take away their broadcasting licenses.
It’s not a violation of their First Amendment rights. Liz and Bernie said so. It’s a defense of their First Amendment right to be censored by the government.
