On Sunday, March 15, 2020, 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden promised to name a woman as his vice-presidential running mate.
In addition, the former vice president promised to appoint the first black woman to the Supreme Court if he’s elected. He also indicated that he is no longer against the the Hyde Amendment, which bans the federal funding of abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or when the mother’s life is in danger.
“If I’m elected president my cabinet, my administration, will look like the country,” Biden remarked. “And I commit that I will in fact appoint a – I’d pick a woman to be vice president. There are a number of women who are qualified to be president tomorrow. I would pick a woman to be my vice president.”
