Special Counsel Robert Mueller declined to recommend prison time for General Michael Flynn in court proceedings on Tuesday.
The former Army Lieutenant General and brief White House National Security Advisor had been cooperating with prosecutors, pleading guilty to a singular charge of lying to the FBI in an interview related to the agency’s investigation of the supposed 2016 Russian election hack.
Flynn has never been demonstrated as having committed crimes unrelated to the initial FBI investigation of alleged “Russian meddling” that was in place before Mueller was appointed. The single technicality he’s facing charges for, is a result of the investigation, not a root cause of it.
