When Toronto-based businessman Doug Ford began his crusade to take down the Liberal government of Ontario, the establishment laughed at him. His campaign, which mirrored much of the messaging of U.S. President Donald Trump, wasn’t something that many people expected would resonate with the people of Ontario. But much to the chagrin of political establishment, it did, and Doug Ford won massively; ending the 15 year reign of the Liberal government of Ontario on Thursday.
Ford, who leads the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario (PC), didn’t just defeat the Liberal Party of Ontario, he CRUSHED them. After holding a strong majority for 15 years, the Liberal Party lost 48 seats, going from a 55 seat majority in the Ontario Parliament to only having 7 seats. In contrast, the Ford-led PC Party gained 49 seats, now holding a whopping 76 seat majority.
