Celebs Forced to Apologize for Not Being Democrats

First, Shania Twain, who is Canadian, was forced to apologize for saying that she would have voted for Trump.

Now, it’s Chance the Rapper’s turn.

After Kanye West’s tweetstorm, Chance tweeted, “Black people don’t have to be democrats.”

Now there’s an apology.

“I’d never support anyone who has made a career out of hatred, racism, and discrimination.” He continued, “So let my apology be seen in my future works, and let me make up for my poorly timed comments with immediate action and advocacy for those who need it most.”

“My statement about black folk not having to be democrats (though true) was a deflection from the real conversation and stemmed from a personal issue with the fact that Chicago has had generations of democratic officials with no investment or regard for black schools, neighborhood or black lives. But again, said that s— at the wrong time,”

So we’ve got two people, neither of whom could credibly be Trump voters, apologizing because they might have made it seem like it might be acceptable to support Trump. Or, in Chance’s case, just not to be a Democrat.

We get a lot of lectures from the media about how badly Trump terrorized the country.

But yet we’ve had two hip-hop stars, Killer Mike and Chance the Rapper, apologize for stepping out of the Dem box in limited ways.

Killer Mike suggested guns could be empowering for black people. Chance didn’t endorse Republicans. He never even mentioned them. He just said that the identity of black people couldn’t and shouldn’t be reduced to party identification.

And that was an even worse heresy.

It’s a very creepy time in America when celebrities are forced to apologize, not for saying anything hateful, but for simply questioning party identification.

Even a decade ago, celebs apologized (occasionally) for saying very offensive things. Now they’re apologizing for not being Democrats.
