Claire McCaskill Now Says She Supports The Trump Tax Cut

Missouri Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill said Tuesday that she supports at least major parts of President Donald Trump’s recent tax cuts.

“So there are parts of it that I would look at, but I would never touch the parts that are actually delivering savings to the majority of the people in my state,” McCaskill told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Up for re-election in 2018 against Republican front-runner Josh Hawley, McCaskill made a 180-degree turn on Trump’s tax law, which passed the House and Senate and which Trump signed shortly before Christmas. McCaskill voted against the Trump tax bill and even called the average $1,000 bonus it gave to working people “scraps” — a comment that was widely criticized.

But she still hedged on “parts” of the bill.

“For example, I don’t think people who make $400,000 in Missouri need a child-care tax credit. I am not sure that my family needs to pay less in estate taxes. I am not sure the pharmaceutical industry needs the level of windfall they have received without lowering prescription drug prices,” McCaskill also said.

Why is McCaskill flipping? Here’s a video of Claire McCaskill telling Hillary Clinton to stop demeaning middle-class American people, on behalf of Democrats in states where Trump won some of his historic landmark victories in 2016. Hillary Clinton said that Trump’s win proved that women voted the way their husbands wanted them to. “Watch your words,” McCaskill told Hillary Clinton.
