Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has officially filed for divorce from her husband Ahmed Hirsi, who is the father of her three children.
Omar claims in her court filing that her marriage is “irretrievable,” and she made the claim on her 37th birthday. Omar and Hirsi have had an on-and-off relationship for many years, marrying in 2002 before separating in 2008 and then becoming legally remarried in 2018. It appears the relationship will finally come to an end with this divorce.
She has requested “joint legal and physical custody” over their three young children, and asked the court to administer child support in a way that would “serve the minor children’s best interest.” She also requested for the court to distribute “marital property” as the court “may deem just and equitable.”
