Criminal justice reform activists care. They care so very truly and deeply. About criminals. Murderers, rapists, and muggers.
Just ask Speaker Nancy Pelosi, defender of the humanity of MS-13 members. MS-13 members and all criminals are the newest protected class. Which means none of us have any protection from them. Not if the pro-crime “criminal justice reform” lobby has its way.
A man found bludgeoned to death outside an abandoned home in New Cassel Sunday was killed after his identity as a victim and witness in a 2018 alleged MS-13 assault was revealed to the defense after prosecution evidence was turned over as part of the pre-trial discovery process.
But Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said at a news conference in Mineola that he blamed a new law that affects the discovery process, part of the controversial new criminal justice reforms that include the prohibition of cash bail in non-violent cases.
“The system failed; the system failed,” said Ryder, who said major crime in Nassau is up 5 percent this year. “This man’s dead because we didn’t do enough…This law is not helping us.”
