DOJ Reopens Hillary Email Investigation

After 7 months and $7 million, the Mueller witch hunt has yet to show any collusion. On the other hand, it’s pretty clear that Hillary and her associates mishandled classified documents.

And so the DOJ is reopening the investigation.

Justice Department officials are taking a fresh look at Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she served as secretary of State, The Daily Beast has learned.

An ally of Attorney General Jeff Sessions who is familiar with the thinking at the Justice Department’s Washington headquarters described it as an effort to gather new details on how Clinton and her aides handled classified material. Officials’ questions include how much classified information was sent over Clinton’s server; who put that information into an unclassified environment, and how; and which investigators knew about these matters and when. The Sessions ally also said officials have questions about immunity agreements that Clinton aides may have made.

The immunity agreements are the real issue.

They were used to specifically make it hard to reopen the investigation. Immunity agreements were handed out like candy even as the letter exonerating Hillary Clinton was being drafted. Take one of the more outrageous examples of misusing an immunity agreement that we recently learned about.

The FBI also confirmed that a key witness, a computer technician who deleted Clinton emails from her server in March 2015 after a congressional subpoena had been issued for them, originally lied to the FBI during his interviews, memos show. The witness’s name was redacted from documents released by the FBI but he was identified as an employee of a computer firm that helped maintained Clinton’s email server.

His admission of false statements came one day after the Comey statement was already being drafted, investigators told The Hill.

The computer employee originally told the FBI in a February 2016 interview that he did not recall making any deletions from Clinton’s server in March 2015, FBI records show.

But then on May 3, 2016, the same employee in a subsequent FBI interview told agents he had an “oh shit moment” and in late March 2015 deleted Clinton’s email archive from the server, according to FBI documents reviewed by The Hill.

Lying to the FBI is a federal felony, a crime that former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn recently pleaded guilty to. But the FBI decided not to pursue criminal charges against the witness, and instead gave the technician an immunity deal so he could correct his story, congressional investigators said.

This is an example of the problem with reopening the investigation. There’s pretty straightforward evidence that classified materials were mishandled. But the immunity agreements make it difficult to get at anyone below Hillary’s level. And Hillary’s defense is that she was technologically incompetent and that her staffers were responsible for everything. (“like with a cloth.”) And the staffers have immunity agreements.

Look at it that way and it becomes pretty clear that the Comey investigation was actually a calculated cover-up that was meant to salt the earth and make it hard to nail Clintonworld for its crimes.
