Creepy porn attorney Michael Avenatti, who the Democrats once saw as their electoral antidote to President Trump, has been convicted on all counts in his trial for extortion.
Prosecutors made the case that Avenatti wanted millions of dollars from Nike, threatening to go public with allegations that they were paying off amateur basketball players. They also said he betrayed his client who brought the allegations to Avenatti’s attention for personal monetary gain.
Prosecutors made the case that Avenatti exploited his client Gary Franklin, a youth basketball coach who had a dispute with Nike. He hired Avenatti hoping to settle his score with Nike, but Avenatti saw dollar signs, prosecutors argued. Avenatti’s extreme amounts of debt may have been the catalyst for hatching this scheme.
