Immigration authorities are set to utilize new “expedited removal” powers to enhance deportation operations, in a bid to reverse the growing flow of illegal immigration from Central America.
Kevin McAleenan, the acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, confirmed the development in a statement. McAleenan determined the illegal immigration crisis “warrants this immediate implementation of DHS’s full statutory authority over expedited removal.”
