Obama loved talking and writing about Indoonesia. Did he, in all that time, find the time to mention the plight of Indonesia’s Christians, Chinese and other non-Muslim minorities, including Jews?
Of course not.
Islamophobia matters. Anti-Semitism doesn’t.
Here’s a snapshot of life for Jews in Indonesia.
About an hour’s drive from the city center on a low-traffic day, some of Indonesia’s small Jewish community gathers once a month to secretly pray on Shabbat… Although the Indonesian constitution guarantees religious freedom for all, the government only extends official recognition to Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Confucianism. Yet despite the challenges surrounding their religious identity, Indonesia’s Jews are determined to continue practicing and preserving their faith.
