Rep. Bob Goodlatte of Virginia, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said Thursday that he is prepared to subpoena the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for documents pertaining to James Comey and Andrew McCabe.
Comey and McCabe are believed by insiders to have leaked troves of information to the press during the period in which Comey was testifying before Congress and McCabe was still employed as deputy FBI director.
Goodlatte told The Hill in a video interview that he is very concerned about the fact that McCabe’s public statements do not match with the sworn testimony that James Comey gave to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Goodlatte seems to believe that Comey and McCabe were leaking to the press.
“I’m very concerned about it. This is a serious matter and their statements, the statement Mr. McCabe released following his firing, and Mr. Comey’s sworn testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee conflict,” Goodlatte said.
“This is a clear indication that somebody wasn’t telling the truth.”
“We are getting ready to issue a subpoena,” Goodlatte said.
At the very least, Goodlatte’s House Judiciary Committee is definitely going ahead with a subpoena to get to the heart of the matter and, hopefully, prove whether or not Comey and McCabe leaked.
House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Devin Nunes is also going forward with subpoenas for Obama administration officials who did not reply to his ten questions about the Hillary Clinton-funded “Trump dossier.” Nunes said that some Obama officials “went dark” instead of filling out and returning his questionnaire.
