On Sunday, appearing at the Kennedy Center to honor comedian and late-night TV host David Letterman, who had won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Jimmy Kimmel decided to toss another grenade in the direction of President Trump.
Kimmel intoned, “When Dave left 17 long months ago, we had no idea how much trouble we were in. I look at what’s going on now, and I think this is your fault. All of it. Everything was fine until you went off the air. You abandoned us. You went out for a pack of cigarettes and left us to live with an abusive orange stepfather.”
If that weren’t enough, Kimmel decided to double down with his bit of hyperbole: “You led the way for all of us with your intelligence, humor and empathy, especially since November, when we kicked open the portal to hell.”
Kimmel apparently has no problem disparaging Trump as abusive and likening his election to opening the portal to hell, while reserving effusive praise for the same guy who had sexual affairs with women on his show while he was married. Letterman publicly apologized to his wife on his show while claiming he had never thought about the repercussions for the women while he was bedding them, that they might be badgered by the press trying to find out which women had been his victims.
