Milo Yiannopoulos College Republicans Event Has 5k People Trying To Cancel It

The student government at California State University, Fullerton is considering condemning a College Republicans event featuring Milo Yiannopoulos.

California State University, Fullerton student government is reviewing a resolution which will officially denounce the upcoming College Republicans event on campus.

The College Republicans will be hosting the controversial conservative provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos at the end of October. The CSUF Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Board of Directors were motivated to shut down the event as a commitment to “supporting marginalized communities on campus.”

The student board argued that Yiannapolous has previously put “students in jeopardy by publicly sharing information regarding their gender and citizenship status.” The resolution also noted that some of his previous speaking events have required universities to spend five-to-six-figure sums on security.

Over 5,000 students and members of the surrounding community have reportedly signed the petition titled, “No Alt-Right Speakers or Hate Groups at CSUF,” according to Campus Reform.

The College Republicans chapter published a press release stating that members of Students for Quality Education endorsed the resolution at the ASI meeting on campus on Thursday and that a final vote will occur on October 24. Students for Quality Education is an unregistered left-wing organization that is funded by the California Faculty Association.

The campus Republicans have said that the resolution represents “another disappointing attack on conservatives and the freedom of speech from CSUF’s student body, faculty, and student government.”

The press release also confirmed that they believe ASI is “sending a signal to conservatives” that their voices and opinions are not valued.

The club event director, Ryan Hoskins, told reporters that certain organizations were looking to make his speech seem like “hate speech and violence.”

One conservative student said that this petition only confirmed his hesitations to share his conservative beliefs on the liberal-leaning campus.
