President Trump Hits Maduro With Sanctions; Crisis Underscores Need For Border Wall

President Donald Trump responded to the situation in Venezuela with an executive order intended to hit ousted socialist leader Nicolas Maduro with sanctions and force him off the governing stage.

Trump is sanctioning the Maduro regime’s state-owned oil company PDVSA, effectively shutting down Maduro’s crude-oil export business, for which the United States was a customer.

The newly-declared president of the country, the National Assembly’s Juan Guaido, is transitioning to power amid instability from the socialist chaos that has plunged that country into ruin. Maduro claims to have the support of the Venezuelan military.

“The U.S. is holding accountable those responsible for Venezuela’s tragic decline,” stated Trump administration Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, with regard to Trump’s sanctions on the Venezuelan central bank.
