Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) has staked his claim as being the ‘Never Trump’ champion of the open borders crowd, emerging to doggedly oppose Trump as he attempts to stop the crisis at the border.
After leading the charge with Congressional Democrats to oppose Trump’s emergency measures declaration on the border, Amash took heat for being the only Republican to oppose a resolution in favor of voter integrity last week.
197-228: House defeats GOP MTR to HR1 on near party line vote expressing the sense of Congress that allowing illegal immigrants the right to vote devalues the franchise and diminishes the voting power of United States citizens. 6 Democrats voted Yes and 1 Republican voted No. pic.twitter.com/xmbQsvNslZ

Rep. Justin Amash (MI) was only House Republican to vote against his party's MTR to HR1.

After the vote, Amash took to social media as he usually does to defend his vote. This time, he gave the rationale was that it is proper under the constitution to permit non-citizens to vote in certain elections. Say what!?!?
Amash, who has been a career attorney and politician his entire life, showed his incredible ability to delude his libertarian followers with this tweet:
I voted against a motion to amend a bill to criticize San Francisco for letting non-citizens vote in school board elections. I voted no because I’m a constitutionalist who opposes such federal interference in LOCAL elections. Non-citizens have voted locally since our founding.
