Sanders on Trump: This Isn’t A President Who Is Not Going To Push Back

On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump released new statements via Twitter where he was critical of the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

Since the tweets went out, many, including individuals of the president’s own party, have called the statements beneath the office of the president

Just a few hours after the statements went out, White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Sanders went on Fox News to try to explain the comments.

Sanders said:

“I don’t think the president has ever been someone who gets attacked and doesn’t push back. There have been an outrageous number of personal attacks, not just at him but to frankly everyone around him. People on that show have personally attacked me many times. This is a president who fights fire with fire and certainly will not be allowed to be bullied by liberal media and the liberal elites within the media or Hollywood or anywhere else.”

The host pushed back, asking — regardless of the way the president feels — if the words he used are necessary.

Sanders answered, “I think what is necessary is to push back against unnecessary attacks on the president. […] I’ve seen far worse things come out of that show — again, directed not just at the president but at everyone around him. Personal attacks. Mean, hateful attacks.”

Sanders was also asked if there was more that the American people need to know about the relationship between the president and the hosts, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.

“Not that I am aware of,” Sanders said.
