Temporary Protected Status Shouldn’t Exist For Haiti or Anyone Else

TPS is finally being wrapped up for Haiti. After 7 years.  With yet another 18 month extension.

And Senator Marco Rubio isn’t happy.

“Haitians sent home will face dire conditions, including lack of housing, inadequate health services and low prospects for employment.”

Otherwise known as living in Haiti. And much of the world.

Haiti is a mess. It will go on being a mess for the foreseeable future. Haitians will not expect to enjoy an American standard of living barring a major decline in the United States that reduces it to poverty, misery and civil war.

That’s why TPS after a natural disaster is an open ended amnesty. It always has been. And now it’s being wrapped up.

But TPS should have never existed.
