The Silly Non-Scandal of Tiger Woods and His Medal of Freedom

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is silly, un-American and shouldn’t exist.

We never needed our own version of France’s Legion of Honor or the UK’s knighthoods.

Unlike the original Medal of Freedom, which honored civilian assistance during WW2, it was a JFK invention that was always little more than an excuse for honoring celebrities and retired political figures.

In one year, Obama handed them out to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Ellen DeGeneres, Robert DeNiro, Michael Jordan, Maya Lin, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, Bruce Springsteen, and Saturday Night Live boss Lorne Michaels.

Lorne Michaels is a producer and screenwriter, best known for creating and producing Saturday Night Live, which has run continuously for more than 40 years. In addition, Michaels has also produced The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and 30 Rock, among other popular, award-winning shows. He has won 13 Emmy Awards over the course of his lengthy career.
