New York Democratic Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez may not be a member of Congress yet, but it looks like she just secured a earlier victory over House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
On Tuesday, the 29-year-old socialist took part in a protest with the “Sunrise Movement,” the group who flooded Pelosi’s office on Capitol Hill with activists who demanded a more progressive climate agenda.
Within hours of the protest, it was reported that Pelosi had recommended to her colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives that they reinstate a committee to address climate change, which is what Ocasio-Cortez wanted.
“PELOSI: ‘I have recommended to my House Democratic colleagues that we reinstate the select committee to address the climate crisis,’” wrote The Daily Beast’s Sam Stein, quoting the California Democrat.
