Politicians have been saying that the US should recognize a united Jerusalem forever. It’s very different when that policy is actually incarnated and transformed into a fixed reality. That’s why the redrawing of the maps of Israel by the US to include the Golan Heights is important. It’s a thousand details like these that make policies real.
The Trump administration says it will update U.S. government maps to reflect President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
In a Wednesday email responding to questions from VOA Persian, a State Department spokesperson said the map changes would be “consistent” with a March 25 proclamation signed by Trump, saying the U.S. “recognizes that the Golan Heights are part of the State of Israel.”
It’s “interesting” that Voice of America Persian is asking those questions. There’s no obvious connection except Iran’s interest in Syria.
