Vice President Mike Pence made an unannounced visit to Afghanistan to visit US troops who are spending the holidays away from their families.
This is Pence’s first visit to a war zone since taking office.
According to ABC News, Pence landed at Bagram Air Force base around 7 PM local time and shook hands with Afghanistan Ambassador John Bass and General John W Nicholson, according to a press pool report.
Pence then traveled to the presidential palace where President Ashraf Ghani and Afghanistan’s CEO Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met him on a red carpet, according to the pool note.
