Secretary of State Mike Pompeo shot down Democratic senator Bob Menendez on the need for the North Korea summit.
Pompeo said that the United States was ready to rock, and was “very engaged in the last weeks” in making the historic summit in Singapore happen that would effectively end the Korean War in remarks Thursday before the U.S. Senate.
It’s clear that people in the national security establishment wanted to shut the summit down, and that’s why Pompeo was making his case so strongly to Menendez about the merits of the summit and the U.S. team’s preparedness — according to insiders.
