MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough Lectures Americans: ‘If You Write A Check To Donald Trump…’

( – “David Duke, the neo-Nazis, white supremacists, Klan members — they stand on one side, and apparently, the rest of America and the world stands on the other (side),” MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said on Wednesday’s “Morning Joe.”

“The president has chosen sides, and it is very clear…he has chosen the wrong side. It is now up to the rest of us to figure out why he did that exactly. Is he just a bigot, is he just a racist?” Scarborough asked.

Scarborough said indifference is not an option for Republican lawmakers, donors or conservative editorial writers:

Make no mistake, if you are a donor, and from this day forward, if you write a check to Donald Trump, a day will come where you may have to explain to your children, to your grandchildren, to your friends why you spent your money propping up someone who defends white supremacy, someone who defends neo-Nazis, someone who defends Klan members — someone who is praised by members of the Klan while being criticized by all of our democratic allies across the globe.

Your money, if you write that check today and you send that in to Donald Trump or the Republican National Committee when they’re not distancing themselves from a man who propped up white supremacists and neo-Nazis that killed a young woman this weekend – that will be on you forever.

President Trump, who has personally insulted both Scarborough and his co-host/finance  Mika Brzezinski, infuriated some Americans on Tuesday, when he suggested that the “alt-left” is just as bad as the “alt-right” in fomenting violence. He specifically said “both sides” are to blame for the weekend violence in Charlottesville.

Trump also said not all of the people protesting the removal of a Confederate statue in Charlottesville were white supremacists.

Trump’s critics have interpreted his remarks as cover for white supremacists, although Trump has denounced them by name on several occasions.

“He has now officially become the president … not only of America, but also of the white nationalist movement,” Scarborough said on Wednesday.

Scarborough also said a lot Trump supporters who aren’t white supremacists are now asking themselves, “What the hell did I vote for? This is not what I voted for. I didn’t want a Clinton or a Bush in the White House, but I sure as hell didn’t want a Duke in the White House, and that’s what they’ve got.”
