Sen. Chuck Schumer Says He Likes The Chinese Internet Firewall- Keeps Trump From Tweeting

TMZ, the entertainment news network, caught up with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) Thursday morning in Washington, D.C., and asked him about China’s Internet ban.

His response? He’s all for it — so long as it keeps President Donald Trump from tweeting.

WATCH:

China practices repressive social control over its citizens, and bans most Internet-based contact with the outside world, including participation in global social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Chinese Internet users, instead, have access to Chinese-only social media options in order to keep Chinese citizens from having too much knowledge of the world outside, or access to media sources that contradict the state’s own media companies.

The ban is widely criticized as oppressive, but, apparently — at least according to Schumer — complete state control over social media has its high points. Unfortunately for the New York Democrat, however, Donald Trump has managed to somehow bypass the restrictive Chinese rules and has been tweeting from within the country’s borders.

Trump tweeted this taunt yesterday, on the anniversary of his election win.

President Donald Trump will be in China for the next few days as he discusses trade, industry, manufacturing and money policy with the Asian economic super-power.
