Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) spoke to Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on “The Ingraham Angle”
Monday and discussed the backlash he received after calling for prayers in the wake of the deadly Texas shooting.
What did Ryan say?
Ryan fired back at the “far secular left” who derided his call for prayers for the people of Texas after the mass shooting, which took the lives of more than two dozen people and injured many more.
Ryan, clearly moved by the response, told Ingraham that the backlash to his prayerfulness was “disappointing.”
“It’s sad and this is what you’ll get from the far secular left,” he said. “People who do not have faith don’t understand faith, I guess I’d have to say.”
“And, it is the right thing to do, is to pray in moments like this because you know what?” Ryan continued. “Prayer works.”
He concluded, “When you hear the secular left doing this thing, no wonder you’ve got so much polarization and disunity in this country when people think like that.”
