Lawsuit Against Harvey Weinstein Alleges SEX TRAFFICKING

A British actress says that by facilitating his overseas travel, the Weinstein Company put women at risk.

A new lawsuit filed in New York on Monday alleges that Harvey Weinstein and the Weinstein Company engaged in human trafficking when the production firm sent Harvey overseas, all the while knowing his history of alleged sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and even rape — and that some members of the company actually facilitated Weinstein’s conquests.

British actress Kadian Noble says she met Weinstein while at the Cannes Film Festival in 2014. According to her filing, Weinstein invited Noble up to his hotel room by promising to discuss a potential movie role.

Once in private, Weinstein, Noble alleges, started massaging her shoulders and then called a colleague from the Weinstein Company who told Noble, over the phone, that she should be “a good girl and do whatever he wished,” and that “they would work” with her if she did. Once she hung up, she says Weinstein began groping her, then pulled her into a bathroom and exposed himself.

The actress described the assault to CBS “This Morning”:

Noble also seems to tell a very familiar story. Many of Harvey’s alleged victims, including actress Asia Argento, have mentioned that a second person was often involved in Harvey’s sexual encounters. In some cases, several of the women say, it was a friend and Italian film producer who worked regularly with Weinstein’s company — a sort of tag-team alliance that helped Weinstein convince his alleged victims that there was a benefit to tolerating his behavior.

Noble says that she and her lawyer decided to file against the Weinstein Company because it was clear from her experience that someone within the firm knew about — and facilitated — Harvey’s sexual encounters, and perhaps even encouraged them.

It’s a unique legal theory — and one that may be difficult to prove absent concrete evidence that the Weinstein Company sent Harvey overseas knowing that he’d use his influence to keep his bed warm, but it does give Noble some distinction in what is already a crowded field of lawsuits against the former Hollywood media tycoon and his namesake company.

Weinstein is still fielding complaints from women who allege that he sexually harassed and assaulted them; the number is now at more than 80. In addition, Weinstein faces several civil suits in the U.S. and abroad, and at least three criminal investigations (in LA, NYC and London).
